Rocco Coronel makes Formula Winter Series debut with Van Amersfoort Racing this weekend
Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR) is pleased to confirm that Rocco Coronel will compete with the team in the Formula Winter Series. The Dutch driver takes this step as he begins his first full single-seater programme, with the team having followed his development closely over the past years.
Coming from a racing family where motorsport has always played a central role, Rocco has grown up around racetracks and race cars. He has been part of the Red Bull Junior Team since 2024 and progressed through the highest levels of national and international karting before making the move into car racing in 2025.
That season quickly turned into a memorable one. Competing in the Ginetta Junior Championship, Rocco delivered a standout year, scoring 11 race victories and 19 podium finishes on his way to the championship title. He became the first Dutch driver to win the series, completing a strong and convincing first season in car racing.
Towards the end of the year, Rocco took his first steps in Formula 4 during the closing round of the Spanish Formula 4 Championship at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Across the weekend, he adapted quickly to the Formula 4 car and showed competitive pace, finishing third in his second race and leaving Barcelona with valuable experience – and a trophy – in his bag.
The Formula Winter Series now forms the next step in his progression. Together with the team, the focus will be on learning, adapting to Formula 4 racing and building experience across multiple race weekends as he continues his transition into single-seater competition.
Rocco Coronel – Formula Winter Series driver, Van Amersfoort Racing:
“I’m really happy to be starting this next step with Van Amersfoort Racing. Racing for a Dutch team in my first full single-seater programme makes it extra special, especially knowing that my dad also raced with VAR in the past. I’ve been working towards this moment for a long time, and I’m excited to get started and grow together with the team.”
Brad Joyce – Team Principal, Van Amersfoort Racing:
“We’ve been working with Rocco around the team environment for the past years and have followed his development closely. He’s already shown that he can adapt quickly and be competitive, something he proved during his first Formula 4 race weekend last year. We’re very glad to support him as he begins his first full single-seater season and look forward to working with him throughout the Formula Winter Series.”
Van Amersfoort Racing looks forward to working with Rocco during the Formula Winter Series and supporting his continued development as he takes this next step in his racing career.
