Chief Mechanic - FR

Van Amersfoort Racing is looking for a skilled and dedicated Chief Mechanic to lead the mechanic team within our FREC team.

About the role

As Chief Mechanic for our FREC team, you are responsible for the technical preparation, maintenance and overall quality of our race cars. You lead the mechanic team both in the workshop and at the track, ensuring that the cars are prepared correctly, operate safely and perform at the required level.

You work closely with the engineering team, coordinate the day-to-day activities of the mechanics and take the lead when technical issues need to be resolved quickly and effectively.

Our workshop is based in Zeewolde. The role also involves regular travel to race and test events.

Responsibilities

Lead and supervise the mechanic team in the workshop and at the track.
Plan, organize and assign work within the mechanic team to ensure efficient operations.
Take responsibility for the correct build, preparation and maintenance of the cars.
Oversee all routine maintenance, inspections and repairs, ensuring that the cars comply with all applicable technical regulations and standards.
Carry out and oversee pre- and post-session technical inspections and quality checks.
Coordinate fast and effective solutions to technical issues during race and test events.
Lead the mechanic crew during pit lane operations.
Act as the #2 Mechanic assigned to one of the cars during sessions, in line with the applicable regulatory restrictions.
Work closely with the engineering team to translate driver feedback into technical adjustments and setup changes.
Manage the inventory of spare parts, tools and technical supplies, including stock control and warehouse organization.
Train, support and mentor the mechanic team and ensure that working methods and procedures are followed consistently.
Maintain high standards of safety, cleanliness and organization in the workshop and paddock.
Coordinate staffing requirements with the Team Manager, including travel planning and workshop coverage.

About you

Proven experience as a Chief Mechanic or #1 Race Mechanic within a formula racing environment, ideally in FREC or a comparable category.
Legally entitled to work in the Netherlands. This is a mandatory requirement.
Strong mechanical knowledge and technical expertise in single-seater race cars.
Proven experience in leading and coordinating a mechanic team.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
A proactive, hands-on and practical approach.
Able to remain calm and make effective decisions under high pressure.
Strong communication skills in English. Dutch is considered an advantage.
