Van Amersfoort Racing Returns for the New Era of German Formula 4 in 2027
Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR) is pleased to announce its return to German F4 for the 2027 season. Having last competed in the championship in 2022, VAR is now set to be part of its new chapter under Gedlich Racing.
The German championship has a strong place in Van Amersfoort Racing’s history. VAR was among the teams competing when the ADAC Formula 4 championship was launched in 2015 and quickly established itself as one of the leading teams in the series. Over the years, VAR secured three drivers’ championships and two teams’ championships, with Jonny Edgar taking the title in 2020 and Oliver Bearman following with the championship in 2021.
The team’s German F4 programme also featured drivers such as Liam Lawson, Dennis Hauger, Mick Schumacher, Felipe Drugovich and Frederik Vesti, who all went on to progress through the international single-seater ladder. The 2021 season was a particularly successful one for VAR, with Bearman taking the drivers’ title, Nikita Bedrin winning the Rookie championship and VAR securing the teams’ title.
Returning to Germany gives VAR the opportunity to reconnect with a championship that has been an important part of its Formula 4 programme for many years. The 2027 series will be organised by Gedlich Racing, an organisation the team already knows well through its participation in the Formula Winter Series since 2025.
VAR has had a positive experience working with Gedlich Racing over the past two seasons and is confident in the new German F4 project. The 2027 calendar also offers a strong platform for young drivers, with the championship joining the DTM on several race weekends. For VAR, the combination of a familiar organisation, a strong calendar and a return to the German market makes the new German F4 series an exciting addition to the 2027 programme.
Brad Joyce – Team Principal, Van Amersfoort Racing:
“We’re very pleased to be returning to German F4. It has been an important championship for Van Amersfoort Racing over the years. We have enjoyed a lot of success there with our drivers. Winning three drivers’ championships and two teams’ championships is something we’re proud of and it’s great to have the opportunity to return.
We already know Gedlich Racing well through the Formula Winter Series and we've had a positive experience working with them. That gives us confidence as we enter this new chapter of German F4. The championship has a strong calendar with several events taking place alongside the DTM, which makes it an attractive platform for young drivers. We’re looking forward to bringing our experience back to Germany and building a strong programme for 2027.”
Further details regarding Van Amersfoort Racing’s 2027 German F4 programme, including the driver line-up, will be announced in due course.
